You do not need a permit or license to operate a snowmobile in New Jersey. However, the vehicle must be registered at any of the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission Agencies

You can plan your snowmobile outing at any one of these New Jersey State Parks:
Allamuchy Mountain State Park, Stanhope, NJ
Allamuchy Mountain State Park has 42 miles of trails open to snowmobile riding that crisscross forests and marshlands. These snowmobile trails are split with 15 miles in the Allamuchy Natural Area and 25 miles of unmarked trails in the northern section of Allamuchy.
North High Point State Park, Sussex, NJ
Features more than 50 miles of trails, Designated multi-use trails are available for snowmobiling. Trails vary in length from one half-mile to 4.4 miles
Ringwood State Park, Ringwood, NJ
Ringwood State Park has 22 miles of snowmobiling on old forest roads shared with cross country skiers.
Parking and access for the trails is available from the main lot at Shepherd Lake, with trial access from behind the boathouse, or from Parking Lot C in the Skylands section. Operators and passengers must wear helmets and maintain safe speeds at all times. Snowmobiles are not permitted on any body of water within the park.
Stokes State Forest, Branchville, NJ
Stokes State Forest has 27 miles of snowmobile trails. The snowmobiling trailhead is on Corson Rd, off SR206. These trails connect with High Point State Park. Snowmobiles are not permitted on any body of water within the park.
Waywayanda State Park, Hewitt, NJ
Wawayanda State Park has 7 miles of snowmobile trails. At 1,140 feet above sea level, Wawayanda State Park receives high accumulations of snow in the winter months.The rolling routes offer nice views of mountains and valleys. The main Wawayanda State Park entrance for snowmobiling is off Warwick Turnpike.
Worthington State Forest, Columbia, NJ
The upper campground field is open to snowmobiles.
Belleplain State Forest, Woodbine, NJ
Belleplain State Forest has 24 miles of snowmobiling trails. The trails follow old flat roads and abandoned railroad grades.
Wharton State Forest, Hammonton, NJ
Wharton State Forest has over 500+ miles of trails and logging roads open to snowmobiling. The snowmobile trails in Wharton State Forest pass through pine forests with white sandy areas and several river crossings.
